Crash on Hwy 242 Near I-45 Snarls Tuesday Morning Traffic

A collision Tuesday morning on Highway 242 near the Interstate 45 corridor created traffic delays for Conroe-area commuters, according to Montgomery County Police Reporter. The crash was reported at approximately 9:05 a.m. at the Donwick Drive intersection, a stretch that carries heavy daily volume between Conroe and The Woodlands.

For Conroe residents, this corridor is one of the busiest east-west routes in Montgomery County, connecting residential neighborhoods to employers, retail centers, and medical facilities along the I-45 spine. A wreck at that intersection during the morning rush can back traffic well past nearby surface streets, adding significant time to commutes heading toward both downtown Conroe and The Woodlands.

Drivers coming from Magnolia or Willis who use Highway 242 as a cut-through to reach I-45 southbound were among those most likely to hit the delay. Lone Star College's Montgomery campus sits within a few miles of this corridor, meaning students and staff with morning classes also faced potential slowdowns.

Highway 242 has seen repeated traffic incidents at high-volume intersections as Montgomery County's population continues to grow rapidly. The county is one of the fastest-expanding in Texas, and road infrastructure in the Conroe area frequently struggles to keep pace with development pressure from both the north and south ends of the county.

Drivers should check real-time traffic apps before using Highway 242 near I-45 for the remainder of Tuesday. If delays persist into the midday hours, alternate routes through Sam Houston National Forest-area farm roads or surface streets parallel to the corridor may offer relief.
