Health officials have confirmed a death from West Nile virus. The victim was a woman in her 90s who had been diagnosed with a severe form of the illness. Symptoms of West Nile virus typically appear within two weeks of a mosquito bite.

Most people infected do not show symptoms. Mosquito season usually lasts several months. The Texas Department of State Health Services verified the cause of death.
