Andrew Yousse, the public information officer for the city, has been indicted on a felony charge related to injury to a child, according to officials who confirmed the news on Wednesday. The indictment stems from an alleged incident that occurred earlier this year.
Mayor Duke Coon announced that the city is aware of the indictment and has placed Yousse on paid administrative leave.
The city acknowledges the indictment," Coon stated in a press release. “At this moment, we acknowledge that the legal system must proceed as intended; however, the city continues to affirm its dedication to serving the community.”
Yousse, 55, was initially taken into custody on March 2 and faces charges of injury to a child under the age of 14, classified as a third-degree felony. According to jail records, he was released the following day. Authorities subsequently charged him with breaching bond conditions, resulting in a second arrest on April 17. He was released on April 24.
Records indicate that Yousse was arrested for a third time on May 6, facing allegations of violating a protective order. He was subsequently released the following day.
The incident began when officials from the Conroe Independent School District reached out to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office following a report made by a child to a school counselor, as detailed in court documents.
Investigators reported observing bruising on the child's chest and identified two additional alleged incidents involving Yousse during the ongoing investigation.
Yousse’s attorney, Michael Aduddell, characterized the case as a “personal matter” and stated that his client plans to contest the charges.
“When all the evidence is presented to the jury, Yousse will be exonerated,” stated Aduddell.
Coon has opted not to provide additional comments, referencing the ongoing legal proceedings and characterizing the situation as a personnel matter.
Yousse has been appointed as the spokesperson for Conroe since the beginning of 2023.
His upcoming court appearance is set for 9 a.m. on May 27 at the 221st State District Court.
