Lone Star Family Health Center in Conroe has completed an $11.4 million, 24,000-square-foot expansion, adding new services and increasing capacity to serve thousands more patients.

The Lone Star Family Health Center has unveiled a significant expansion at its main campus, featuring 24,000 square feet and an investment of $11.4 million. This new addition enhances the Conroe clinic's capacity for patient care, mental health services, and staff support.
A public ceremony was held on Tuesday to dedicate the two-story addition, which began construction in November 2023. The facility features additional medical exam rooms, a specialized mental health suite, enhanced patient intake and pharmacy areas, new office space on the upper level, and larger meeting and break rooms for staff.
“It’s fantastic,” CEO Karen Harwell stated. “This has allowed us to incorporate behavioral health and additional services.” We are now able to concentrate on broadening our services.
Harwell noted that the staff particularly value the newly created corridor linking the original building to the expansion, referring to it as a “landing space” that helps direct patients upon their arrival.
Lone Star Family Health Center, established in 2002, operates as a federally qualified, nonprofit organization offering a range of services, including medical, dental, women’s health, and mental health care. Alongside its headquarters in Conroe, the organization runs clinics in Willis, Spring, Grangerland, and Huntsville.
The center's expansion is projected to accommodate an additional 3,000 patients each year, based on previous estimates. According to Courtney Galle, the marketing and communications manager, the funding was sourced from cash reserves, a term loan, federal grants, and private donations.
A new clinic on the second story opened its doors in January, with the entire project wrapping up in April.
