Montgomery County residents now have a new phone number to contact the Sheriff’s Office for non-emergency police services. The change aims to improve response times by reducing non-law enforcement inquiries to 911 dispatchers.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) has added a new non-emergency phone number (936-538-5900) to expedite calls and ensure that 911 dispatchers are always available for real situations.
A press release from March 11 says that the old non-emergency line (936-760-5800) will now be used as a general public information hotline. On the other hand, the new number will only be for non-urgent police issues, like reporting theft or crimes that are not currently happening.
"We are committed to making sure that our dispatchers are available to handle calls for help and emergencies quickly," Sheriff Wesley Doolittle said. "This new phone number and receptionist center is an extra step we're taking to ensure our emergency response system works well and keeps the public safe."
People should still call 911 in an emergency, but the new non-emergency line will care for routine calls, freeing up resources for essential calls.
MCSO is making this change part of a larger plan to improve public safety and communication in Conroe and the nearby Montgomery County towns.

A pastor and two others face felony charges after Conroe police linked them to a hit-and-run crash that killed a 46-year-old man earlier this month.
