Two sisters are behind bars after a 12-year-old girl escaped their Conroe home and told investigators she had endured months of physical and sexual abuse.
Authorities have taken two sisters from Montgomery County into custody following a harrowing incident involving a 12-year-old girl. The girl managed to escape their residence in Conroe and reported to investigators that she had endured months of torture, starvation, and sexual abuse, as stated by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Brenda Garcia, 38, and her sister, Tania Garcia, 37, face charges including injury to a child, unlawful restraint, and invasive visual recording. On October 3, deputies took both women into custody following an incident where the girl escaped from the home on September 28 and sought assistance.
Court documents reveal that deputies discovered the child with severe injuries, including a deep, infected wound on her forehead and numerous scars. She was transported to Texas Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands, where medical professionals verified signs of significant physical abuse, neglect, and malnutrition.
Authorities reported that surveillance footage from within the residence, along with videos retrieved from Brenda Garcia’s mobile device, supported the victim’s narrative. Authorities uncovered text messages revealing that Brenda confessed to striking the child.
In response to inquiries, the sisters reportedly informed deputies that the girl was “psychotic” and had inflicted harm upon herself. Nonetheless, medical personnel and investigators indicated that the evidence significantly disputes that assertion.
A 12-year-old has detailed in a 10-page affidavit the months of abuse endured at the hands of the sisters. She reported being strangled with a belt, compelled to strip and crawl on the floor “like a dog,” beaten with sticks and cords, photographed naked, and zip-tied to furniture as a form of punishment. She informed the authorities that her meals were limited to ramen noodles and water, provided only twice daily, leaving her in a state of starvation.
In a particular situation, as stated in the affidavit, the sisters reportedly said to her, “Just die already.”
Court documents indicate that prior to her time in Conroe, the girl lived with an uncle in Houston, where she alleged she was also a victim of sexual abuse. Brenda is said to have been acquainted with the uncle and took the girl from school in March, relocating her to Conroe.
Brenda Garcia is currently incarcerated with a bond set at $280,000, while Tania Garcia is being held with a bond of $200,000.
Sheriff Dolittle described the case as “deeply disturbing,” emphasizing, “The safety and well-being of children will always be my highest priority.” He called on residents to promptly report any suspected abuse.
The child has been placed in protective custody and is currently undergoing medical and psychological treatment.
Officials emphasized that this situation highlights the importance of being alert and fostering community awareness to safeguard at-risk children from harm.
A proposal in Conroe that would require protest organizers to pay hundreds in fees and carry costly insurance is sparking backlash from residents who say it violates their First Amendment rights.
