Incumbent Sara Countryman has been reelected mayor of Montgomery, according to unofficial results, while Cheryl Fox reclaimed her City Council seat. The outcomes follow a competitive local election with multiple candidates and strong early voter turnout.

Sara Countryman, the incumbent, secured reelection on Saturday in a competitive four-way race for mayor, as per the unofficial results released by the Montgomery County Elections.
Countryman garnered 39.92% of the vote, amounting to 188 ballots, outpacing challengers Mark Gess, who secured 29.51% (139 votes); Art Aguilar, with 27.81% (131 votes); and Kristin Gyldenege, who received 2.76% (13 votes).
“My work is far from complete,” Countryman stated, expressing gratitude to voters following the announcement of the results.
Cheryl Fox emerged victorious in the City Council Place 4 race, securing 67.89% of the vote with 296 ballots cast in her favor, while Efrain Lucas garnered 32.11% with 140 votes, based on unofficial tallies.
“I truly value the support of all the voters,” Fox expressed after her victory.
The two races stood out as pivotal contests on the May 2 municipal ballot, where voters cast their ballots for leadership positions that will influence city policy, budgeting, and development choices. The mayor leads City Council meetings and acts as the city’s primary elected representative, while council members cast votes on ordinances, contracts, and long-term planning efforts.
In the early stages of the election cycle, unofficial results from early voting indicated that Countryman was in the lead with 45.71% of the ballots cast, trailed by Gess, Aguilar, and Gyldenege. Fox secured a commanding early advantage in the council race, capturing over two-thirds of the initial votes cast.
Montgomery County has announced that 21,253 ballots were cast during the early voting period. This figure includes 18,052 votes made in person and 3,201 ballots submitted by mail. The final totals, encompassing all ballots cast on Election Day, have yet to be completely disclosed. Polls officially closed at 7 p.m. Saturday, but voters who were in line at that time were permitted to submit their ballots.
The election results arrive at a time of increased local engagement in city governance, as residents express their opinions on leadership amid ongoing growth and development throughout Montgomery County.
The results are not yet official and will be subject to canvassing by local authorities.
