Dine for a Cause: Houston Restaurant Weeks to Raise Funds for Food Bank This August

A news release from June 3 states that more than 400 restaurants in Greater Houston will participate in Houston Restaurant Weeks, which runs from August 1 to September 1. The goal of the event is to raise a lot of money for the Houston Food Bank.

Since its inception in 2003, the event has grown into the largest yearly dining fundraiser in the U.S. It has raised over $22 million and provided more than 66 million meals to people in need in the area.

There will be meal deals at restaurants in Galveston, the Galleria, Downtown, Midtown, the East End, West Houston, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, and even Galveston. The Houston Food Bank will get a part of every prix fixe meal sold.

The Houston Food Bank's president and CEO, Brian Greene, said, "The funds raised by this event are more important than ever." He used recent cuts to funding and rising community needs as examples. The event's organizer, the Cleverley Stone Foundation, changed the donation amounts to $1, $3, and $5 per meal to help cover the higher costs of the restaurants.

Houston Food Weeks also aims to support local restaurants in August, which has traditionally been the slowest month for the food industry. For many, this is now the best month of the year to make money.

People can start browsing the menus of participating restaurants on HoustonRestaurantWeeks.com starting July 15. New menus will be added daily until the event begins. Fans of good food will find numerous ways to support a good cause, from upscale restaurants that have won awards to neighborhood eateries.
