Drive-Thru Light Trail Debuts at Candy Cane Park as City Rolls Out Holiday Events

Conroe is set to unveil a new Candy Cane Holiday Trail drive-thru light experience this Christmas season, adding to a series of downtown festivities and cherished holiday traditions, as announced by city officials this week.

A complimentary light trail is set to debut on December 5 at Candy Cane Park, operating from Friday to Sunday evenings until December 28. The City Council has given the green light to a project funded with $300,000 from the Convention and Visitors Bureau budget. This initiative is a collaboration between the Conroe Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Parks and Recreation Department.

Deputy City Administrator Nancy Mikeska stated that the venue was a perfect match for the event. “As the sole holders of Candy Cane Park, it’s only fitting that we host a Christmas celebration there,” she remarked during a city workshop on Aug. 27.

Southern California Lighting is set to install a captivating display that includes four illuminated tunnels, themed décor, spaces for live performances, and a special appearance by Santa. Motorists will access the area via Interstate 45, navigate through the park, and exit onto Semands Street. Guests can listen to 88.9 FM for coordinated festive tunes throughout the journey. The trail is set to run from 6 to 10 p.m. on weekends at 1204 Candy Cane Lane.

A new attraction is set to debut following the lighting of the city's Christmas tree at Heritage Place Park on December 2, with festivities planned from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Following that, the downtown area will feature Christmas Around the Square—previously known as Christmas on Main—from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The upcoming event will showcase local businesses situated along Main, Simonton, and Metcalf streets.

Founder’s Plaza is set to be the vibrant center of music, featuring a performance by Jazz Connection at 6:45 p.m. Participants can cast their votes in a contest featuring beautifully decorated storefronts and gather tickets at various booths throughout downtown, with prize drawings scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

The Toby Powell Conroe Christmas Celebration is set to take place on December 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Heritage Place Park. The event pays tribute to the late Mayor Toby Powell, who initiated this tradition before his passing in 2020. This year's celebrations will showcase a street dance with performances by Caleb and the Ho Ho Homegrown Tomatoes.
