Houston Methodist has received a record-breaking $110 million donation to advance neuroscience and women's health research. The investment is expected to strengthen specialized care that many patients from Conroe, The Woodlands, and Montgomery County rely on through the Texas Medical Center.

Residents across Conroe, The Woodlands, and Montgomery County who travel to Houston Methodist for specialized medical care could benefit from a record $110 million donation that will fund research into neurological diseases, expand women's health initiatives, and support new medical technologies.
Houston Methodist announced Wednesday that the Brockman Medical Research Foundation has made the largest single donation in the health system's more than 100-year history. The gift will help accelerate research, patient care, and innovation in neuroscience and women's health.
The contribution comes as Houston Methodist continues construction of its new Brockman Centennial Tower, a 26-story hospital expected to open in 2027 at the Texas Medical Center. The $1.4 billion facility will add nearly 400 patient beds, expand emergency services, and increase access to advanced specialty care.
For many Montgomery County residents, Houston Methodist is a referral center for complex neurological conditions, stroke treatment, brain disorders, and high-risk women's healthcare that may not be available nearby.
Of the donation, $100 million will establish a new innovation fund to support the Houston Methodist Academic Institute and the Neurological Institute. The remaining $10 million will create an excellence fund dedicated to advancing women's health through the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Houston Methodist President and CEO Dr. Marc Boom said neurological diseases are becoming a greater challenge as people live longer.
"We're on the cusp" of major advances in treating neurological illnesses with the right investment in research and education, Boom said.
Dr. Jenny Chang, president and CEO of the Houston Methodist Academic Institute, said the funding will help recruit leading researchers, expand the use of artificial intelligence, and accelerate discoveries to prevent, diagnose, and treat neurodegenerative diseases.
"This is going to be a transformational gift," Chang said, adding that researchers still have much to learn about dementia and other debilitating neurological disorders.
The donation also recognizes the memory of Anna Margaret Bellows, the 8-year-old who died during the July 4 flooding at Camp Mystic. The entrance to the Brockman Centennial Tower will be named Anna Margaret Bellows Centennial Hall in her honor.
The latest gift surpasses Houston Methodist's previous record donation of $101 million from Paula and Joseph C. "Rusty" Walter III and Walter Oil & Gas Corporation in 2017, which also supported neuroscience research.
Construction continues through 2027.

Conroe, The Woodlands, and the rest of Montgomery County are expected to remain hot and mostly dry through Sunday, with highs in the mid-90s, heat index values topping 100 degrees and moderate air quality concerns for sensitive groups.

Montgomery County residents will have multiple opportunities on June 27 to provide input on the county's long-term transportation plan through a series of public meetings and an online survey.
