Nonprofit clinic expands care with new vision services in Conroe

Lone Star Family Health Center is set to introduce new vision services this year, aiming to enhance access to affordable eye care for patients throughout Montgomery County, according to a news release dated May 13.

The Conroe Noon Lions Club has announced its support for the initiative, providing a substantial $100,000 grant and a commitment of $10,000 annually for the next five years to facilitate the development and implementation of the program.

Officials at the clinic announced that the newly introduced services will include routine vision screenings and comprehensive eye exams to evaluate eye health and identify common vision problems at an early stage.

“Our new vision services demonstrate Lone Star Family Health Center’s ongoing dedication to addressing healthcare disparities and ensuring that the community has access to high-quality care, regardless of their ability to pay,” stated CEO Karen Harwell in the announcement.

The expansion signifies an ongoing commitment by the federally qualified health center to tackle disparities in care for underserved populations. Since its inception in 2002, the nonprofit organization has dedicated itself to delivering services to uninsured, underinsured, and low-income patients across the region.

At present, Lone Star Family Health Center provides various services, including family medicine, OB-GYN, dental care, behavioral health, and pharmacy services, across five locations. A sixth clinic in Magnolia is set to open shortly, enhancing access to healthcare services in the area.

Community leaders assert that the inclusion of vision services will yield extensive advantages that extend beyond mere eye health.

“We believe that vision care has the power to transform lives, enhance educational achievements for children, promote independence among adults, and bolster the overall health of our community,” stated Tracy Irvine, president of the Conroe Noon Lions Club. “We are privileged to engage in a partnership that promises to create a significant and enduring impact for the future.”

The new program is set to be established at the health center's Conroe location, situated at 605 S. Conroe Medical Drive.

Officials have yet to disclose a specific opening date; however, they have indicated that the service is expected to launch later this year.
