Conroe ISD is asking community members to help name 10 new campuses, including a virtual school. Submit suggestions by May 9; final names announced in June.

Conroe ISD is asking the public to help name 10 new district facilities, including a virtual school, with submissions open through May 9 on the district’s website.
The naming effort follows the passage of a $1.9 billion bond in November 2023, which included funding for eight new campuses and multiple renovations. District leaders say community input plays an important role in the naming process, which aims to reflect local history, values, and geography.
The list of facilities includes a new elementary school in the Grand Oaks feeder zone, a Conroe-area intermediate and junior high, ninth grade campuses for Grand Oaks and Caney Creek high schools, three agricultural barns, and the district’s virtual school.
Naming the virtual campus is especially important, Superintendent Curtis Null said, because it allows the school to adopt a mascot and colors. “It’s giving it a personality,” Null said, noting that students at the virtual campus participate in extracurricular activities and can earn letter jackets like their peers at brick-and-mortar schools.
Sarah Blakelock, executive director of communications, said high schools are generally named after geographic areas, while elementary and intermediate campuses are often named in honor of individuals who have made significant contributions to the community. She will present public suggestions to the school board in May, with final names expected to be announced in June.
The district has used community naming input before; in 2024, it named Timber Mill High School after Conroe’s historic lumber industry and named a new elementary school for Mittie J. Campbell, Montgomery County’s first Black principal. Another was named after former Conroe ISD board member and state legislator Rob Eissler.
Residents interested in participating can submit their name ideas for any of the 10 facilities online through the district’s website before the May 9 deadline.
