Son charged with murder in fatal shooting of mother in Montgomery County

A 23-year-old man has been charged with murder following an incident in which he allegedly shot and killed his mother early Monday morning at a residence on Beeson Road. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office were dispatched at approximately 5:20 a.m. following a 911 call that reported a family member brandishing a firearm and threatening others within the residence. During their journey, deputies obtained further information indicating that the suspect might have discharged a firearm at the residence.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of 50-year-old Jana Flores, who appeared to have succumbed to a gunshot wound within the residence. At the time of the incident, two additional family members were present; however, they did not sustain any injuries.

Authorities have identified the suspect in the case as Michael Flores, the son of the victim, who reportedly fled the scene prior to the arrival of deputies. Authorities reported that he collided with another vehicle a short distance away before engaging in a physical altercation with responding deputies.

Authorities reported that non-lethal weapons were deployed to apprehend Flores following his resistance to arrest. No deputies sustained injuries during the incident.

Flores has been taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and is anticipated to be booked into the Montgomery County Jail following his release. He is charged with murder.

Authorities have yet to disclose a motive for the shooting, and the investigation is still underway.

Authorities indicated that further information could be disclosed as investigators persist in collecting evidence and conducting witness interviews.
