Houston’s suburbs are getting more places to play America’s fastest-growing sport, with The Picklr opening in Cypress and a larger Conroe location on the way.

More and more people in Greater Houston are getting into pickleball. Drew Brees, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback, backs the international pickleball chain The Picklr. This month, they opened an 18,200-square-foot facility in Cypress. By February, they will open an even bigger one in Conroe.
The new club in Cypress is at 8920 Barker Cypress Road. It has six indoor courts, one of which is a "skinny" half-size court, a pro shop, and different membership choices. For as little as $149 a month, you can play at any Picklr site in the country. You can play for $30 per day if you're not a member. Junior memberships for players 8 to 18 years old cost $89 a month, and for an extra $29, you can use the "AI Coach" function.
The new site in Conroe, Texas, at 16590 Interstate 45, will be 66,517 square feet and have 20 courts, making it one of the biggest indoor pickleball centers in the area. Additionally, the business has rented a 35,000-square-foot space in the Cinco Ranch area, which will open in 2026.
Pickleball is becoming more and more famous, and the Picklr is growing quickly to keep up. The Sports & Fitness Industry Association named it the fastest-growing sport in the U.S. for the fourth consecutive year in 2024. There are plans for 500 Picklr stores to open in the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. By 2027, the Houston Business Journal predicts the opening of another 70 sites nationwide, including five in Greater Houston. Fifty of these sites are already open.
Even though Cypress already has busy places like Pickle Point USA and Pickleball Social, people still want more indoor courts. Pickle Point USA has 11 courts, and Pickleball Social has a bar and both indoor and outdoor play areas. It is a place to relax and have fun at the same time.
In the past two years, there have been a lot of new pickleball clubs starting all over the Houston metro area. These include PKL Social, Solarium, Bumpy Pickle, Casa Pickle, Drop Shots HTX, The Pickleball Spot, and Elite Pickleball Club. Local players still have a challenging time finding court time, even though the number of players has grown. The Picklr hopes to make the situation easier as it establishes itself in the area.

Sam Houston State University has begun renovations to The Woodlands Center that will triple the interior space for its School of Nursing, aiming to boost enrollment by nearly 70% by 2026. The $13–$14 million project adds more simulation labs, classrooms, and training facilities to help meet Texas’s ongoing workforce shortage.

The Salvation Army of Conroe/Montgomery County will host its 39th annual Doll and Bear Tea on Dec. 7, offering more than 200 dolls and bears for sale to support local assistance programs. The long-running holiday event, open to the public, continues a tradition that began in 1986.
