United Way Expands Services in Montgomery County With Purchase of 51,900-Square-Foot Conroe Building.

By acquiring a 51,900-square-foot building in Conroe, the United Way of Greater Houston plans to expand its footprint in Montgomery County significantly. The strategic acquisition aims to improve residents' access to crucial financial assistance services. The nonprofit revealed on Monday that it has acquired a new location at 350 South Loop 336 West, which will enable it to broaden its programming and enhance accessibility for families in need of its assistance.

The decision was made after an analysis of data revealed elevated levels of ALICE households—families who are employed but struggle to consistently meet basic needs—in the zip codes adjacent to Conroe. The organization announced that relocating from its current location in The Woodlands will bring its staff and nonprofit partners closer to those most in need.

“This new building enhances our capacity to connect with individuals by providing an expanded hub of nonprofit partners, streamlining access to support for those we serve,” stated Amanda McMillian, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Houston. “This development presents an exciting opportunity to extend our services to a greater number of residents in Conroe and the wider Montgomery County area, assisting them in forging their paths toward enduring financial stability.”

United Way is set to allocate a portion of the facility for program and meeting spaces designated for partner nonprofits, fostering enhanced collaboration via the Integrated Client Journey (ICJ) network. The ICJ connects individuals to services that stabilize housing, employment, and financial outcomes. The Conroe building is set to accommodate various ICJ partners within a single, centralized location, enhancing the efficiency of support services for clients.

The structure is equipped with a generator, enabling it to serve as a vital community resource hub during natural disasters. The facility, similar to other United Way regional centers, will provide meeting rooms and collaborative operational space for local nonprofits.

The United Way Montgomery County Council played a pivotal role in the site selection process, highlighting the organization’s enduring commitment to coordinating local nonprofit initiatives. “United Way has consistently leveraged its regional center in Montgomery County to foster collaboration and resource sharing among local nonprofits, enhancing our collective impact,” stated Melissa Young, a board member and council chair of United Way. “We are eager to build upon these initiatives with the addition of this expanded facility.”

United Way anticipates launching the new Conroe center in early 2026. In the meantime, operations will continue at the existing location at 1600 Lake Front Circle in The Woodlands, which is scheduled for sale as part of the relocation process. The organization runs regional centers in Harris County, Fort Bend County, and Waller County.
