Authorities have upgraded their investigation into the death of an 81-year-old Conroe-area man, now classifying the case as a homicide, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
James Blount was found dead Monday inside his home on Trails End Road after deputies responded to a welfare check call. Officials previously reported the death as a shooting and have since confirmed it is being investigated as a homicide.
Blount’s family said he formerly worked as a livestock officer for the Montgomery County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office.
Investigators have not released details about potential suspects or a motive in the case.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
“We are asking anyone who may have information related to this case to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office,” officials said.
