Residents looking for weekend plans in the Conroe and Montgomery area will find various events ranging from live entertainment and shopping to educational programs and community service opportunities.
Leading the weekend lineup is Stage Right's production of "Bye Bye Birdie" at the historic Crighton Theatre in downtown Conroe. The musical follows fictional rock star Conrad Birdie after he receives notice that he has been drafted into the U.S. Army, setting off a series of comedic events. Performances are scheduled for Thursday and Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m., with a Saturday matinee beginning at 2 p.m.
Shoppers can kick off the holiday season Saturday during the Montgomery County Christmas in July event in Conroe. The shopping extravaganza will feature local vendors and retailers selling boutique clothing, jewelry, home décor, and seasonal gifts. Organizers expect a mix of returning businesses and new vendors for the one-day event.
Families and science enthusiasts can also visit the Central Library in Conroe on Saturday morning for "The Rocking Fossil Record," an educational presentation hosted by members of the Houston Gem and Mineral Society. Attendees will learn about amateur fossil collecting and have an opportunity to examine fossil samples. Registration is encouraged for the free program.
Community members will have an opportunity to give back Sunday when The Church at Montgomery hosts a blood drive at Oak Hills Junior High School. The donation event will take place before and after the church's Sunday services and is expected to support area hospitals and emergency medical needs.
Event organizers remind attendees that schedules and details may change and encourage residents to confirm times and availability before arriving.
