On December 3, Montgomery County commemorated the launch of its new Marble Creek neighborhood, highlighting that it is Habitat for Humanity’s most notable housing initiative since the Cedar Creek development in the Conroe area began in 2009. The nonprofit organization dedicates itself to constructing homes and communities, offering affordable housing solutions to those in need.
Deputy Director Erik Armstrong announced to the attendees that the construction of homes at the 81-acre site will begin in the spring. Over 200 families will be able to live in the neighborhood, significantly increasing the availability of affordable housing in southwest Montgomery County.
As noted in previous reports, Marble Creek broadens the organization's scope beyond Cedar Creek, which is currently nearing completion. The new neighborhood will feature land generously donated by Brian and Shirelle Chimenti, with community amenities such as a park, green space, and walking trails.
During the ceremony, Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley commended the project, describing it as a valuable enhancement to Magnolia. “I’m eager to witness what you all can accomplish, as I’ve observed it in Conroe,” he stated. “This will be an excellent location, where many wonderful people are destined to gather.”
During the event announcement, Executive Director Vicki Johnson revealed that an anonymous donor has pledged $500,000 to support Marble Creek, with $100,000 to be contributed each year for the next five years. As she recounted the profound effect of the gift, Johnson became visibly emotional, sharing that she had been "in tears all morning." She credited the moment to “prayer and gratitude for the kindness of the community and the belief that everyone deserves a safe ... place to call home.”
Officials from Habitat announced that the donation will expedite planning and infrastructure efforts as the nonprofit gears up for the initial phase of home construction.
The nonprofit anticipates that further community partnerships will emerge as development progresses. Early 2025 will see the release of additional information about volunteer opportunities, eligibility criteria for prospective homeowners, and construction timelines, according to officials.
