Montgomery County Food Bank celebrated the grand opening of its expanded Conroe facility on Oct. 27, honoring major donors and unveiling improvements designed to serve local families in need.
On Monday, the Montgomery County Food Bank celebrated the grand opening of its recently expanded building, marking a significant milestone in its nonprofit's efforts to combat hunger in the area.
Black Walnut Café provided refreshments for the event on October 27, which also included tours of the refurbished facility and an awards ceremony. Attendees included local authorities, community partners, and donors to honor the project's sponsors and the Food Bank's ongoing expansion.
Kristine Marlow, president and CEO of the Montgomery County Food Bank, stated, "Today is about gratitude—for the people and partners who helped make this possible." "This expansion guarantees that we can effectively and dignifiedly address our community's expanding needs."
In April 2024, the Food Bank began construction on the project at its Conroe headquarters, 1 Food For Life Way. PGAL, E.E. Reed Construction, and Howard Hughes were part of the development team. The group maintained full operations throughout the 18,000-square-foot makeover to guarantee that households in Montgomery County would continue to get meals.
By expanding the Produce Rescue Center and adding more space to the Volunteer Center, the project enabled the Food Bank to receive and distribute more fresh produce. Additional enhancements include a revamped Welcome Center, additional event and storage space, more parking, and improved volunteer safety features.
Marlow co-led the ceremony with Jim Carman, chairman of the Food Bank's board and president of Howard Hughes' Houston region. In addition to Woodforest National Bank and the Woodforest Charitable Foundation for their support of the new Volunteer Center, the ceremony recognized Huntsman Corporation and Brynn and Peter Huntsman as visionary benefactors for their support of the new Welcome Center.
The Woodlands Methodist Church, Kroger, ExxonMobil, Howard Hughes, and private contributors received additional recognition for their contributions. Presenting a congressional proclamation lauding the Food Bank for its "continued commitment to strengthen Montgomery County through service and compassion," U.S. Representative Dan Crenshaw was present at the occasion.
Through collaborations with neighborhood pantries, educational institutions, and civic associations, the Montgomery County Food Bank provides monthly assistance to tens of thousands of residents.
