Conroe ISD Shortlists 12 Candidates for Interim Superintendent

Conroe Independent School District is gearing up for a significant leadership change. Superintendent Curtis Null has been identified as the sole finalist for the superintendent role at Lake Travis Independent School District, a development announced on May 1.

The Conroe Independent School District board of trustees has revealed that it will evaluate a dozen candidates for the interim superintendent position. This decision was announced in a news release dated May 14, ahead of a special meeting set for May 19.

The quest for an interim leader is underway as Null prepares to depart. During the meeting held on May 13, the board refrained from deciding on the interim position. The recent meeting featured extensive dialogue and examination of public feedback concerning naming six new schools and facilities, a direct outcome of the district's 2023 bond program.

During a recent meeting, CISD Communications Director Sarah Blakelock reported on the number of submissions collected throughout the public input period, which ended on May 9. Community members engaged enthusiastically in proposing names for the new campuses and facilities. The Grand Oaks seventh-eighth grade campus led the way in suggestions, amassing 344 submissions. I

n second place was the Grand Oaks ninth-grade campus, which garnered 209 suggestions. The Flex 26 intermediate school received 106 suggestions, whereas the agriculture barns accumulated 117 suggestions. Grand Oaks Elementary School reported 67 submissions, while Caney Creek Ninth-Grade Campus received 59 submissions. The virtual school recorded 24 submissions.

Discussions regarding the attendance boundaries for a new high school and the naming of the new school are scheduled to take place in June. Officials will announce the decisions regarding the school names on June 17.
