A 60-year-old man is currently in custody following an alleged shooting incident that occurred during a neighborhood dispute on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery County, according to authorities.
Deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the Kings Colony neighborhood around 1 p.m. following reports of an active shooter incident. Investigators later concluded that the incident originated from a dispute between a 17-year-old boy and the individual identified as Juan Ayala-Montero.
Authorities report that the situation intensified when Ayala-Montero reportedly discharged a rifle from within a residence, releasing multiple rounds over the course of several hours. Footage released by family members captures the chaotic scene as individuals sought shelter amidst the sound of gunfire.
“He was indiscriminately pointing at everyone and opened fire on all,” stated Camilo Samano, brother of the victim. “My brother was struck in the head and sustained a scrape on the side.”
Investigators have recovered 31 shell casings at the scene, highlighting the severity of the incident. Family members reported that approximately 10 individuals were present in the home at the time, among them several children.
Witnesses recall observing children fleeing as gunfire erupted. “This incident involved a four-year-old and a ten-year-old; such occurrences are not commonplace,” stated Samano.
The injured teenager, known to family as Uziel Samano, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, which include a head injury and a graze wound. Authorities initially indicated that there were multiple victims in the incident; however, they later revised their statement to confirm that only one individual sustained injuries. The suspect reportedly sustained minor injuries prior to being taken into custody.
Ayala-Montero has been charged with deadly conduct for the act of discharging a firearm and is currently being held on bond. Authorities confirmed that he is subject to a federal immigration detainer and has a history of being deported from the United States.
Authorities have reported that the 17-year-old implicated in the initial altercation is also facing a charge of making a false report to a peace officer. Investigators indicated that the information provided could have obstructed the ongoing investigation.
In response to early reports of an active shooter, multiple law enforcement agencies swiftly arrived at the scene as a precautionary measure. Officials have announced that the situation is now under control, assuring the public that there is no ongoing threat.

Authorities say two people suffered minor injuries in a shooting in the Kings Colony neighborhood in New Caney. A 60-year-old suspect surrendered to SWAT, and officials say the scene is now secure as the investigation continues.
