Family Calls for Justice After Fatal DWI Crash Kills Child on Mother’s Day

A family is demanding justice after a terrible crash on I-45 on Mother's Day killed a child and seriously hurt a mother and her young daughter. Police say the accident was caused by a drunk driver, who is now being charged with major felonies.

ShaVohn White had to pull over on the inside shoulder of I-45 near Conroe because her tire was flat. She was going to Huntsville with her daughters, Chamiria, 10, and Chloe, 5. Tragically bad things happened after two hours of waiting for help.

Police say 55-year-old Donald Carson, who admitted to drinking before the crash, hit the parked car and killed Chamiria on the scene. White and Chloe were seriously hurt. Both are still in the burn unit at Memorial Hermann Hospital because they have burns and broken bones.

The kids' grandma, Shundrell White Brady, said, "It's horrifying—almost unbelievable." "Everything is still making sense to me."

Chloe's aunt, Latricia Tolliver, says the girl always wants to go home. "Where is my mom?" she asked. "They're helping you, sweetheart," I told her. Don't move. "Everything will be fine. "

Carson is in the hospital and is being charged with one count of manslaughter while drunk and two counts of assault while intoxicated. ABC13 looked at the warrant and found that he admitted to drinking before the crash, but police haven't said where.

Carson was found guilty of DWI in Beaumont in 2003, according to court records.

She said, "I just hope people think before they get behind the wheel." "It takes more than one life; it destroys whole families."
