Free Spring Break Arts Series Launches at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion is starting a new free performing arts series for kids and adults to enjoy together over spring break.

According to a news release from the venue, the Pavilion's Arts Break performances will be on March 9–13 and March 16–20. These dates match up with many Houston-area school districts' spring break schedules. There is no cost to attend the performances, which will take place in the Pavilion's Event Center.

Ashley Gravois, assistant director of arts outreach, said in a statement, "As part of our nonprofit mission, we are proud to give families free access to high-quality performing arts experiences." "Arts Break gives kids and their parents a new way to enjoy the arts together during spring break."

The roster includes a combination of dance, theater, music, and fun things to learn. The series began on March 9 with Mezclada Dance Company: Percussive Movement, which featured the live band Melvin Johnson & The Electro-Akoustic.

There will be other shows during the program.

On March 11, the Great Works Theatre in Chicago will put on "Do Not Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus," a stage production of the award-winning children's book.

March 13: Lucas Miller, "The Singing Zoologist," an educational show that uses music and animation to teach about metamorphosis, pollination, ocean food chains, and arthropods.

March 17—Ars Lyrica presents "Maria's Magical Music Adventure," which takes audiences on a time-traveling trip to Venice to meet composer Antonio Vivaldi just after he completed The Four Seasons.

The Magik Theatre in San Antonio is putting on "Red Riding Hood," a funny take on the famous fairy tale, on March 18.

Before the shows start, there will also be activities for kids at each event.

The organizers of the Pavilion have designed the series to seamlessly integrate with families' spring break activities. The Pavilion material says, "Arts Break is the perfect activity for families to do outside of the house during spring break." It has performances in the morning and afternoon every day, so families can easily attend no matter what their schedule is."

Doors open at 10 a.m. for morning shows, and the program starts at 10:30 a.m. After the doors open at 3 p.m., the afternoon shows start, and the performances start at 3:30 p.m. You may see a full schedule of future concerts and more information on the Pavilion's website.
