A man from Montgomery County faces murder charges after a deadly incident that officials link to a workplace disagreement with his roommate on Sunday night.
Jose Martinez, 49, is accused of fatally shooting his co-worker and roommate, 42-year-old Juan Vite-Hernandez. The incident is said to have originated from a dispute at Joe's Italian Restaurant, where both parties were working. The court records from Montgomery County indicate that the disagreement escalated upon the return of the two men to their home.
On Sunday night, law enforcement officials arrived at a residence in the 500 block of West Ave, where they found the body of Vite-Hernandez near the front steps. Court documents disclose indications of a confrontation in the yard, showcasing the presence of blood, scuff marks, a ball cap placed on a vehicle, scattered loose change, and a cell phone located in proximity.
The disagreement reportedly began when Martinez was apprehended at Joe’s Italian Restaurant later that evening. The individual is detained at the Montgomery County Jail, with bail set at $250,000.
While being questioned, detectives noted that Martinez had blood on his pants and visible bruising on his nose. Although he recognized the conflicts with Vite-Hernandez at his job and home, he strongly denied any involvement in the shooting incident.
Investigators indicate that when they dialed the number provided by a colleague, Martinez's phone rang. The phone was found adjacent to the vehicle at the crime scene.
“I am in shock; it feels unreal,” remarked Joe Haliti, the owner of Joe's Italian Restaurant. Each individual is exceptional in their way. The incident has deeply affected me with a sense of sorrow.
As of Wednesday, a court date for Martinez has yet to be established.
