Lone Star Family Health Center to add vision care in Conroe

The Conroe Noon Lions Club has given a grant to Lone Star Family Health Center to provide vision services later this year.

The funding includes an initial $100,000 grant plus $10,000 per year for the next five years to assist the development and launch of the program. Officials stated the new vision services will be available at the center’s Conroe facility.

Health center leaders say the expansion is part of a bigger effort to address healthcare inequities and increase access for underprivileged people.

“Our new vision services are a reflection of Lone Star Family Health Center’s ongoing commitment to focus on healthcare disparities and ensuring the community has access to high-quality care, regardless of ability to pay,” said CEO Karen Harwell in a statement.

Lone Star Family Health Center is a federally designated health center, established in 2002, providing a range of services including family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, dental care, behavioral health, and pharmacy services. The organization has locations in Conroe, Willis, Spring, Grangerland, and Huntsville, with a new location opening shortly in Magnolia.

The Conroe Noon Lions Club, formed in 1939, is one of the largest Lions clubs in the United States with a long history of focusing on vision-related issues. As part of its aim, the club holds screenings and runs an eyeglass recycling program.

“The Conroe Noon Lions Club is pleased to work with Lone Star Family Health Center to help expand access to vital vision care services to residents of our community,” said club president Tracy Irvine. We believe in changing lives via sight care.

This comes on the heels of recent growth at the health center’s main site at 605 S. Medical Center Drive, where a 24,000-square-foot extension opened in 2025. The expansion added exam rooms, increased pharmacy space, and a dedicated mental health section.

The new vision program, officials added, will help further enhance the center's ability to deliver comprehensive care under one roof.
