New 7,000-Square-Foot Facility in Conroe Expands Homeless Services at Miracle City

Almost a year after starting construction, Compassion United is set to unveil its new 7,000-square-foot day center this month, enhancing support for individuals facing homelessness in Montgomery County.

A new facility, with a budget of $2.1 million and supported by federal grants, offers essential services such as food, showers, medical care, and computer rooms, all designed to help clients in their journey to rebuild their lives. This initiative is a component of Compassion United’s extensive Miracle City project, which is designed to assist individuals moving out of homelessness through a multi-phase development.

“This day center represents a significant advancement,” stated Luke Redus, founder of Compassion United. “It’s about creating an environment of respect, access to resources, and pathways for growth.”

A nonprofit organization located in Conroe has been operating its 5,500-square-foot Empowerment Center since 2022, offering meals, counseling, and case management services. A new facility has been established on Foster Drive, occupying five acres that were generously donated by the city in 2018 to bring the Miracle City vision to life.

The opening marks a significant milestone that has been in the works for years, according to Jessica Clark, the organization's director of communications. “We are absolutely thrilled,” she said. “Our clients are set to transition into the building next week.”

Within these walls, patrons will discover much more than just meals and bathing facilities. The center is designed to assist individuals in obtaining identification cards, exploring employment opportunities, and accessing healthcare services. Partner organizations, such as Tri-County Behavioral Healthcare, will collaborate at the location to offer enhanced services.

The day center represents a significant step in a comprehensive strategy that started with the Empowerment Center and will progress towards transitional housing. The upcoming phase involves the construction of three residences—one designated for men, another for women, and a third for women with children—in collaboration with HomeAid Houston and Highland Homes.

Redus emphasized that the primary aim is to establish a self-sufficient community where individuals can gradually regain their independence. “Miracle City represents a journey of change,” he stated. “Our goal is to witness transformations in lives, rather than merely enhancements in situations.”
