Nurses, Staff at Woodlands Specialty Hospital Report Missed Paychecks Amid Cash-Flow Crisis

Employees at Woodlands Specialty Hospital are increasingly voicing concerns, stating they have not received paychecks for over a month. This situation arises as the facility grapples with a cash-flow crisis linked to delays in insurance payments.

Last week, FOX 26 broke the story when a staff member revealed he could no longer continue his work without receiving payment. An employee, wishing to remain anonymous due to concerns about retaliation, reported to the station that he has missed two paychecks and is finding it increasingly difficult to manage financially as the holiday season approaches.

The employee reported that he sold his car to manage his expenses. He has recently discovered that his wife is expecting, which intensifies an already challenging circumstance. When asked about the experience of reporting for duty without pay, he responded, “It’s hard.” No one is willing to take it on. Simultaneously, I sense a duty to fulfill my role as a nurse, as patients rely on my care. "I refuse to leave any patients behind."

The employee characterized the previous month as particularly overwhelming. “It has been incredibly frustrating,” he stated. The holiday season has arrived, and it presents its own set of challenges. At this point, I have not received two paychecks. He expressed that the absence of communication has raised even greater concerns: “Simply not getting any responses.” Lack of transparency.

Should the circumstances persist, he intends to submit a wage claim to the Texas Workforce Commission.

Woodlands Specialty Hospital issued a statement saying the problem arose when insurance companies began redirecting reimbursements to the hospital's lenders without prior notice. The hospital stated, “These garnishments resulted in two payrolls being missed.” “This situation presents a challenge with cash flow.” The hospital said that it has kept up to date with its lenders and anticipates that payroll will resume before the holiday season.

Workers continue to express skepticism. “If it were a cash flow issue, they had ample opportunity to communicate with employees about the situation,” the nurse stated. “We found ourselves completely uninformed.”

Other staff members informed FOX 26 that they are struggling with unpaid bills due to missed wages. While some individuals have begun exploring other job opportunities, they remain steadfastly dedicated to patient care as they contemplate their next steps.

The hospital has extended an apology; however, employees express their fatigue with mere assurances and demand the compensation they are rightfully owed.
