Ruah Cafe Expands With Faith-Rooted, Globally Inspired Menu in Montgomery County

The owners of Ruah Cafe share travel-inspired recipes and a family-rooted restaurant idea that they say brings global flavors to local tables. The cafe is steadily gaining fans in The Woodlands and Conroe.

The Chávez and Vengoechea-García families opened the cafe's first location in March in The Woodlands. In April, they opened a second location in Conroe.

Dan Vengoechea, a co-owner, said the idea came from years of sharing food, faith, and the idea that travel makes people more creative. He said, "We believe that tasting its foods is the best way to learn about a country, city, or culture."

Vengoechea said that Ruah, whose name means "spiritual breath," shows that the owners are Christian and that their menu is based on Christian beliefs. The families came from Venezuela and Colombia, and they started making food based on the places they visited. They would often cook together and try to recreate the flavors of the towns that inspired them. After trying different things for three years, Daniel's sister, chef Angela Vengoechea, helped them create a menu featuring gourmet toast, handmade breads, fresh ingredients, and flavors from around the world.

They were so confident in the concept that they quickly opened two locations, surpassing their initial expectations, according to Vengoechea.

Even though Ruah Cafe has only been open for a few months, it has built a strong customer base. Argentinean, Puerto Rican, and Amsterdam tastes, according to Vengoechea, keep people coming back to try new things.

The most popular item is still the Amsterdam sourdough toast, which comes with eggs Benedict, bacon, hollandaise sauce, Gouda cheese, and microgreens. You can get both sweet and spicy crepes at the cafe. For example, the Buenos Aires crepe is made with dulce de leche, banana, walnuts, and whipped cream.

They also get coffee from Ethiopia, Guatemala, and Colombia and roast it in their own country. The cafe serves protein drinks along with cappuccinos and lattes for customers who care about their health.

Because of this focus on health, they have teamed up with local schools like F45. There are also plans for Ruah Cafe to collaborate with FS8, a Pilates studio in the same shopping center.

Ruah Cafe operates at two locations:
• 30420 FM 2978, Ste. 430, The Woodlands
• 1219 Grand Central Parkway, Ste. 100, Conroe
