A man from Spring faces allegations of administering abortion medication to a pregnant woman without her consent, leading to a miscarriage that ultimately resulted in the death of the unborn child, as reported by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities announced the arrest of 25-year-old Jon Rueben Gabriel Demeter on Monday. Major Crimes Detectives charged him with aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon, resulting in serious bodily injury related to family violence, according to a statement released on social media. As of Tuesday, Demeter remains in the Montgomery County Jail without bond.
Deputies were dispatched to a hospital in The Woodlands following a report of a miscarriage that raised suspicions, according to the sheriff’s office. According to investigators, the woman alleged that the father of her child, known as Demeter, had administered a drug to her without her knowledge or consent in a purported effort to terminate her pregnancy.
The sheriff’s office has reported that a woman alleged that Demeter made several attempts to convince her to have an abortion, even going so far as to offer financial assistance for travel out of state to facilitate the procedure.
Authorities from the sheriff’s office, in collaboration with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office, have concluded that Demeter acquired abortion medication, according to official statements. Authorities are alleging that he secretly administered the medication with the intention of causing the death of the unborn child.
Authorities reported that the woman named the child Presley Mae and delivered her stillborn. Authorities have yet to provide information regarding the gestational age of the pregnancy.
Sheriff Wesley Doolittle commended the investigators' efforts in a recent public statement.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has expressed appreciation for the ongoing dedication demonstrated by its detectives, according to Doolittle. Officials have expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the mother and her family as they mourn the loss of Presley Mae.”
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office announced that they may enhance the charge against Demeter as the investigation advances.
