A suspicious package discovered near a law enforcement vehicle in Conroe prompted a multi-agency response before officials determined it posed no threat to the public.
The package was found around 4 p.m. on June 1 in the 200 block of West Phillips Street by a deputy from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said the item leaned against the rear wheel of the deputy’s patrol vehicle.
Officers with the Conroe Police Department, along with investigators from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and deputies from the sheriff’s office, responded to secure the area. Nearby intersections were temporarily closed as a precaution to protect businesses and residents.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office conducted an assessment of the package and determined it was safe.
“Through their diligent efforts, the package was determined to be safe and posed no threat to the public,” officials said.
Once authorities cleared the scene, road closures were lifted and normal activity resumed in the area.
The Conroe Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has taken custody of the package and is continuing to investigate alongside the fire marshal’s office.
Officials thanked the responding agencies for their coordinated efforts to ensure public safety.
No injuries were reported.
