To honor its 50th anniversary, The Woodlands plans to install a striking $1.2 million sculpture at a prominent intersection. The "First Fifty" sculpture will feature a unique design with eight trees symbolizing the township's villages, celebrating its rich history and community spirit.
A sculpture that will be prominently displayed at a key entrance to the township will be given to The Woodlands as a way to mark the township's 50th anniversary. The sculpture will be valued $1.2 million. In an effort to improve the aesthetics of the intersection of The Woodlands Parkway and Grogan's Mill Road, the "First Fifty" anniversary sculpture that was suggested by The Woodlands Road Utility District No. 1 is intended to be installed.
A circular frame made of weathering steel will be embellished with stainless steel markings commemorating the town's history since its inception. The sculpture will have a diameter of fifty feet and will be an amazing piece of art. According to Kyle Watson, a utility district board member, "There has been a real need to make a statement about The Woodlands with regard to that intersection." Not only are some flowers being planted and a few things being hung, but this is much more than that.
At the center of the artwork will be eight trees, each representing one of the eight settlements that make up The Woodlands. Additionally, fifty branches will spread forth to represent the passage of time. Construction is predicted to begin in the early years of 2025, which will serve as a significant milestone in the township's history and celebrate its thriving community.
