Anime convention, pop-ups highlight local weekend

There are various entertainment, retail, and community events planned around the Conroe and Montgomery area this weekend, giving locals multiple options for getting out and spending their time.

Headlining the roster is the fifth annual KimoKawaii Anime Convention, scheduled for June 6-7 at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center. Cosplay contests, food vendors, and karaoke lounges will all be part of the event, which will draw anime fans from across the region. Hours for the convention are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Organizers say tickets are $15 to $30.

An open house will be held Friday at 9 a.m. at Montgomery's Sanctuary Salon & Spa, where participants will have the opportunity to meet staff and take advantage of discounted services. Entry to the event is free.

Early risers may attend a sourdough pop-up by Flowers & Grace Homestead Bakes, in collaboration with Blue Willow Coffee, in Willis. The pop-up, open Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., will feature fresh-baked items. No admission fee.

Meanwhile, plant lovers can head to downtown Conroe, where Clover House Antiques will be hosting a plant swap from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Bring a potted plant to swap for a new one. Event details are subject to change, and the list may not include all activities happening in the region, organizers note.

The weekend's slate includes a mix of community-focused activities, from specialized conventions to small-business pop-ups, highlighting ongoing engagement in Montgomery County.
