A 17-year-old teen has been arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide following the shooting death of his 16-year-old brother early Thursday morning, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Easton J. Spoklie is being held in the Montgomery County Jail, where no bond has been set. Authorities have not released the identity of the younger brother.
Deputies responded around 4 a.m. to a home on Redberry Court after receiving a 911 call reporting a teenager with a gunshot wound, officials said.
Patrol units arrived within minutes and began lifesaving efforts, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the victim was with Spoklie and a 19-year-old friend at the time of the shooting. The friend has not been identified.
Officials believe the shooting was accidental, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Major crimes detectives and crime scene investigators with the sheriff’s office are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident, with assistance from the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the shooting.
The case remains under active investigation.

A high-speed pursuit in Montgomery County has led to a suspect being taken into custody, but residents in Conroe are advised to avoid the area around Ranking Road.
