Dr. David Vinson Appointed as Conroe ISD Superintendent

The Conroe ISD Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. David Vinson as the new Superintendent of Schools, signifying a new era in the district's leadership. The resolution was formalized in a special meeting on September 18, 2025.

Dr. Vinson, the superintendent of Wylie ISD since 2011, possesses over twenty years of expertise in public education. His leadership at Wylie ISD garnered him nationwide acclaim for academic performance, financial prudence, and creative student initiatives.

Under his leadership, Wylie ISD attained regular “A” ratings from the Texas Education Agency, increased dual-credit enrollment by 600% and initiated the nationally acclaimed Wylie Way character education framework.

Misty Odenweller, President of the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees, stated, “We are pleased to announce Dr. David Vinson as our forthcoming superintendent.” “His student-focused leadership, proven track record of academic excellence, and profound respect for educators correspond with our priorities for every child in every classroom.”

Odenweller continued, “We anticipate collaborating with him to enhance student achievements and guarantee the success of every pupil.”

Dr. Vinson conveyed his enthusiasm for the new position, noting, “I am exceedingly eager to join this esteemed school district and serve our students, families, educators, and the wider community.” I am grateful and privileged to have been selected by the Board of Trustees to lead Conroe ISD, and I look forward to collaborating with our team to ensure that every student develops academically and morally.

Dr. Vinson consistently demonstrated a commitment to both scholarly and financial success throughout his career. He oversaw more than $700 million in bond programs at Wylie ISD, ensuring their timely and budget-compliant execution.

Dr. Vinson’s influence extended beyond the local sphere, influencing state education policy. He presided over the Student Behavior Management Coalition, facilitating the passage of House Bill 6 in 2025, which led to a significant improvement in student discipline. He played a crucial role in establishing the HB3 Reading Academies, designed to enhance early literacy throughout Texas.

Dr. Vinson began his educational career in 1992 as an educator and coordinator at Idalou ISD. His leadership positions in Frenship ISD and Floresville ISD solidified his image as an innovative educator.

A distinguished alumnus of Texas Tech University, he holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and Marketing, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Character Education.

Dr. Vinson and his spouse, Cristy, are proud parents of two children. Their son, Cal, is a graduate of Texas Tech and is currently undertaking graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University. In contrast, their daughter, Kate, has graduated from North Park University in Chicago.

Dr. Vinson, having assumed leadership at Conroe ISD, is well-positioned to foster academic excellence, student well-being, and robust community partnerships throughout the district.
