From potlucks to New Year’s Eve, Conroe-area events run through January

From Christmas Eve parties to New Year's Eve celebrations and early January expos, the Conroe area has many events planned until early January. These events offer a mix of holiday traditions, family activities, and live entertainment.

VFW Post 4709 in Conroe is hosting a potluck lunch on Christmas Eve, one of the first events on the calendar. Bring your best holiday dish and join the community for a midday meal. The event is free and starts at noon on December 24 at the post office on West Semands Street.

During the holidays, libraries in the area are also holding events for kids. The Willis R.F. Meador Branch Library will hold R.E.A.D. to the Dogs on December 27. This is a reading program that pairs young readers with trained therapy dogs. It is a fun way for kids to practice reading out loud, and those who read 10 books to a dog get a free book. The event is free and takes place from 10 to 11 a.m.

There are many things to do on New Year's Eve for adults and children alike. Lucy Blues in downtown Conroe will have a party with food, live music, and a midnight toast on New Year's Eve. Tickets are required. The event site says that there will be fresh tamales and champagne at midnight to "celebrate New Year's Eve at Lucy Blues." The event starts at 9 p.m. on December 31 and costs $60 for general entry.

Kids younger than 10 can choose to start the countdown earlier at the Central Library in Conroe. The Kids' Noon Eve Balloon Drop is on December 31 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It has projects, games, and a countdown to noon instead of midnight. For the free event, you must sign up in advance through the library.

The Bride to Bride Expo will take place at the Lone Star Convention Center on January 3 and 4, which is the first event of the new year. The event is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for two days and lets people meet local wedding vendors, buy bridal items, and seek deals on used items. It usually costs $10 to get in.

Event organizers say times and details may change, so locals should check the website or call ahead to confirm the times, prices, and registration requirements.
