Lone Star College System Reports Record Fall Enrollment

Lone Star College System (LSCS) has reported an unprecedented enrollment for the fall 2025 semester, reaching a total of 97,294 students, as stated in a news release on Sept. 10.

The figure represents a record peak for the college system. The increase stands at 5.9% compared to fall 2024 and is 15.9% above the enrollment figures from ten years prior. The data was gathered from Official Day figures, reported 12 academic days into the semester.

The system's growth indicates an increasing number of students opting for academic transfer and career training programs at community colleges.

Among the nearly 100,000 students, there are 29,860 who are new to the LSCS. A detailed analysis of the student body reveals that 32.5% of students are enrolled full-time, while 67.5% are enrolled part-time. The college system additionally accommodates 28,955 dual-credit students and 4,652 veterans. Additionally, there are 492 students enrolled in the Honors College. Instruction delivery varies, with 46% of courses conducted face-to-face, 44% online, and 9% in a hybrid format. Financial aid is awarded to 31.3% of the entire student population.

Seelpa Keshvala, Ph.D., Executive Vice Chancellor of Academics at Lone Star College System, emphasized that although the rise in enrollment is encouraging, the primary focus remains on ensuring student success. “We take pride in the increasing number of students who are selecting Lone Star College System as their home.”

Keshvala shared that LSCS’s main priority is not to increase enrollment but to enhance student outcomes by providing high-quality education.

The LSCS has been acknowledged for its contributions to veterans, earning the 2025 Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Gold Award in late August.

In early September, it became part of the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program's Unlocking Opportunity network, an initiative designed to support community colleges in improving student outcomes through program reform.

The dedication to supporting students and ensuring their success serves as a fundamental motivator for the college system's strategic initiatives. Keshvala further elaborated on the system's mission, stating, “No matter their background, we aim to assist our students in transitioning from their current situation to their desired destination.”

This commitment to eliminating obstacles is integral to a broader initiative aimed at enhancing student retention and completion rates, while also welcoming innovation to promote growth and excellence in higher education.

Lone Star College, the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area, under the leadership of Chancellor Mario K. Castillo, J.D., has been recognized as a “2024 Great Colleges to Work For®” institution by the Chronicle of Higher Education. College
