Local activist groups We Won’t Comply of Conroe and Greater Woodlands Indivisible are set to host an event at Courthouse Square from 1 to 4 p.m., joining over 100 demonstrations taking place throughout Texas. The demonstrations align with President Trump’s extravagant $100 million military-style parade in Washington, D.C., marking the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army and Trump’s 79th birthday.
According to organizers, the demonstrations are a response to the government's budgetary priorities and Trump's increasing reliance on military symbolism. “The president is not a king,” stated a joint declaration from the Conroe and Woodlands organizations. “We’re coming together to demonstrate that democracy is for the people, not for spectacles and show.”
Participants are encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items, socks, and hygiene products to support local outreach initiatives in collaboration with the Montgomery County Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.
Authorities in Montgomery County have acknowledged the demonstration and are working with organizers to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Events like these are planned throughout the Houston region, with locations such as Sugar Land, Katy, Kingwood, and Cypress participating.
Governor Greg Abbott has put Texas National Guard troops on alert across the state in reaction to the organized protests. Organizers emphasize that the demonstrations will continue to be non-violent and centered on community involvement.
