Parents at Bartlett Elementary School are demanding accountability after a teacher denied bathroom access to first graders, leading to humiliation and trauma for several children.

Parents of Bartlett Elementary students in Conroe ISD are outraged after a teacher took away bathroom privileges for her class, resulting in several first graders wetting their pants and facing a humiliating day. The incident took place when the teacher allegedly disciplined the whole class for disruptive behavior by restricting restroom access.
Amber Johnson, whose daughter was one of the students impacted, characterized the event as "traumatizing and humiliating." She stated that children were left in tears, pleading to use the restroom, and ultimately compelled to remain in soiled clothing for the rest of the day.
Joseph McCauley, a father, voiced his anger over the absence of notification, challenging the disparity between the responsibilities of parents and those of the school. If I were to send my child to school in that state, Child Protective Services would be notified. What makes it acceptable for my child to return home in this manner?
Conroe ISD has confirmed that denying bathroom access is a violation of the district’s code of conduct, and the teacher is now under investigation. A substitute teacher has been appointed to the class for the duration of the inquiry. The district highlighted that the incident does not represent the safe and supportive atmosphere it aims to uphold.
Parents expressed their discontent regarding a teacher’s aide who was present yet did not take action. McCauley has advised his daughter to approach the principal directly if she is denied access to the restroom again.
The district continues its investigation while parents seek reassurance that similar incidents will not occur again.
