Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward was arrested early Thursday near Conroe after allegedly assaulting and strangling his fiancée at their Magnolia residence. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
A domestic violence case in the Conroe area is drawing attention as Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward was arrested early Thursday morning in Magnolia, a community situated approximately 20 miles southwest of downtown Conroe.
At around 4:30 a.m., deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrived at Ward’s residence following a 911 call about an ongoing assault. Upon arrival, deputies reported that Ward’s fiancée alleged that the 33-year-old NFL veteran had assaulted, strangled, and threatened her during a domestic dispute.
Ward was apprehended without incident and processed at the Montgomery County Jail, where he remained on Thursday afternoon. A third-degree felony charge has been filed against him for assault family violence, impeding breath/circulation, which carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $10,000.
The sheriff’s office has confirmed that the investigation is still in progress. As of Thursday evening, online court records did not show any defense attorney assigned to Ward.
The Houston Texans have confirmed the arrest of Ward, who joined the team in 2023 following an extensive career with the San Francisco 49ers.
“We acknowledge the report concerning Jimmie Ward,” stated Texans spokesperson Omar Majzoub. “We are currently collecting details and will not provide additional statements at this moment.”
Ward, hailing from Racine, Wisconsin, boasts an impressive 11-season career in the NFL, having started 99 games and establishing himself as a respected veteran presence in the secondary.
The arrest has captured significant attention across Montgomery County, as law enforcement and community organizations persist in their efforts to tackle domestic violence challenges. The NFL and Texans management are expected to assess the situation in accordance with the league's personal conduct policy.
